Special Events and Celebrations
In addition to everyday activities, Karuna Care London is planning a programme of special events and celebrations that will bring colour, warmth and a sense of occasion to life in the home. These occasions are intended to mark important moments in the year and in each person’s life, and to help future residents feel part of a small but lively community.
Major holidays and cultural festivals
We intend to mark major religious and cultural festivals in a way that reflects the backgrounds and wishes of the people who live with us. This is likely to include celebrations such as Christmas, Eid, Diwali, Easter, Hanukkah and other significant days identified by residents and their families.
On these occasions, the home will be decorated appropriately, with festive music, traditional foods and simple activities that reflect the meaning of the day. For example, a Christmas gathering might include tree decorating, carols and a special meal, while Diwali might be marked with lights, sweets and music. Each event will be planned to be inclusive, so that those who wish to participate can do so in a way that respects their beliefs and preferences.
Seasonal events and social occasions
Throughout the year we plan to hold seasonal events that bring people together and make use of the home’s indoor and outdoor spaces. In warmer months this may include garden barbecues or picnics with family visitors, ice cream and cold drinks, or small performances in the garden. In autumn and winter, events might include a harvest‑themed display, simple Halloween activities for those who enjoy them, or a winter fair and decorating the home together.
These occasions are intended to be relaxed and enjoyable rather than elaborate, providing shared experiences that residents can look forward to and talk about afterwards.
Intergenerational and community links
Where possible, we plan to invite local community groups to visit, for example school pupils or youth groups who may come to sing, read, or take part in joint craft activities. Intergenerational contact can lift mood, stimulate conversation and help residents feel more connected to the wider community. All such visits will be risk assessed and supervised so that they remain safe and comfortable for everyone involved.
Birthdays and personal milestones
We recognise that personal milestones matter just as much as public holidays. Each resident’s birthday will be acknowledged as a special day. Staff will arrange a simple celebration such as a cake, cards, decorations and, if the resident wishes, a small gathering with other residents and invited family members.
Other important personal events, such as anniversaries or achievements, can also be marked in ways that are meaningful to the individual. The aim is for each person to feel known, remembered and valued.
Why celebrations matter
These special events are more than social occasions. They help to create positive memories, strengthen relationships with family and friends, and offer opportunities for reminiscence and conversation. They can reduce loneliness, provide structure to the year and give residents something to anticipate with pleasure. Our intention is that celebrations at Karuna Care London will support emotional wellbeing and reinforce the sense of belonging to a community.
Regulatory status
Karuna Care London is currently progressing through registration with the Care Quality Commission (CQC), and the home is not yet open to residents. The events and celebrations described on this page form part of our planned model of daily life and will be introduced once CQC registration and all necessary approvals have been granted.
