FAQs
Are you CQC registered and currently accepting residents?
No. Karuna Care London is not yet operational and is currently progressing through registration with the Care Quality Commission (CQC). Until CQC registration has been granted and all other required approvals are in place, we will not admit any residents or provide regulated care.
Our premises at 549 Uxbridge Road, Hayes, UB4 8HP already have sui generis planning permission from the London Borough of Hillingdon for use as a small care setting. During this pre‑registration phase we are completing the physical environment, policies, staffing and governance arrangements so that the home is ready to operate safely once registration is confirmed.
Who will Karuna Care London support?
Karuna Care London is being designed as a small home for adults who need assisted living with personal care in a calm, residential setting. In practice, this will be for adults aged 18 and over who require regular support with daily living, personal care and general wellbeing, but who do not need on‑site nursing care.
Suitability will always depend on an individual assessment by the local authority. The council’s adult social care team will decide whether a person’s needs match the type and level of support we can safely provide. Only those assessed as suitable and referred through the appropriate local authority channels will be considered for placement.
How can someone be referred to Karuna Care London?
Referrals are expected to come through adult social care services at Hillingdon Council or, where appropriate, a neighbouring local authority. If you think a relative or person you support might benefit from our service, the first step is to contact their local council’s adult social care department and request a care needs assessment.
If the assessment indicates that Karuna Care London is a suitable option, and we have capacity once we are open, the council will contact us to discuss the placement. We are not able to accept purely private, direct admissions from the public without the involvement of the relevant local authority, as this helps to ensure that placements are appropriate, safe and correctly funded.
Will you accept self‑funding or part‑funding arrangements?
We expect most placements to be arranged and overseen by local authorities, even where the individual contributes to their care costs or pays in full. Funding arrangements will be agreed between the resident, their representatives and the council’s finance team as part of the assessment and placement process.
Families who are interested in self‑funding or contributing towards costs should still begin by speaking to the local authority adult social care team, who can explain how funding assessments work and how contributions are calculated.
Can family and friends visit residents at Karuna Care London?
Yes. Once the home is open and residents are living with us, we intend to welcome family members and friends, as maintaining personal relationships is a vital part of wellbeing. Visiting will take place in line with our visiting policy, which will be designed to balance openness with safety, privacy and infection prevention.
We expect to have clear visiting arrangements, which may include set visiting periods or an appointment system, particularly at busy times, as well as sensible guidelines for visitors. All visiting arrangements will be reviewed regularly and kept in line with current health guidance and regulatory expectations. Before a resident moves in, families will receive written information about how visiting works and who to contact to arrange or discuss visits.
Where can I get more information or discuss a potential future placement?
Because we are still in the process of securing CQC registration, we cannot yet confirm individual placements or admission dates. However, we are happy to speak with families, social workers, health professionals and other interested parties who wish to understand our model of care and our anticipated timescales.
You can contact us by email at info@karunacarelondon.com. We can explain our stage of development, answer general questions and, where appropriate, note your interest so that you can be updated as our registration progresses.
