Amenities & Accessibility Features
Karuna Care London is being developed to provide a comfortable, well equipped and accessible environment for adults who require support with daily living. The premises has been arranged so that future residents can feel at ease, maintain as much independence as possible, and move around the building safely and confidently. Every aspect of the layout and amenities is being planned in line with current UK adult social care good practice for a safe and enabling environment.
Amenities:
Welcoming Lounge
The home will include a bright, welcoming lounge that serves as a central social space. It will be furnished with sofas, armchairs, a television and a selection of books and games, providing somewhere to relax, watch favourite programmes, read, or spend time with other residents and visiting family members. The atmosphere is intended to be calm and homely rather than institutional.
Kitchen and dining facilities
A well appointed kitchen and dining area is available for the preparation and serving of meals. Residents will be able to enjoy hot breakfasts, main meals and lighter options at appropriate times of day, with refreshments available between meals. Where it is safe and appropriate to do so, residents will be supported to participate in simple food preparation and kitchen tasks, helping them to maintain skills and a sense of involvement in everyday life.
Secure garden and outdoor space
The property benefits from a secure, accessible garden with seating areas. This outdoor space has been designed to be easy to use for people with limited mobility, providing level or gently sloping surfaces, appropriate lighting and safe pathways. Residents will be able to sit outside, talk with others, enjoy fresh air or take part in light gardening activities in raised planters. In warmer weather, the garden is intended to be used for small gatherings, family visits and seasonal events.
Accessibility and layout
The internal layout of the building has been planned with mobility needs in mind. There is step free access to the ground floor, and several ground floor bedrooms are suitable for people who use wheelchairs or walking aids. Corridors are wide enough to accommodate mobility equipment, with handrails and non slip flooring in key areas to reduce the risk of falls. Changes in level are clearly identified, and circulation spaces have been arranged to minimise obstacles and clutter.
Within bedrooms and bathrooms, fixtures and fittings are positioned to support safe use, for example grab rails where appropriate and sufficient space to manoeuvre mobility aids. These features are intended to allow residents to move about as independently as their health permits, with staff assistance available where needed.
24 hour emergency call system
For reassurance and safety, each bedroom and every bathroom has been fitted with an emergency call system, using pull cords or push buttons. Additional call points are installed in key communal areas. Once the service is operational, activating a call point will alert staff on site so that help can be provided promptly, whether the person needs urgent assistance, feels unwell or simply requires support to move or transfer. The system is designed so that residents can summon help quickly and discreetly at any time of the day or night.
Staff presence, security and fire safety
When the home opens, trained staff will be on duty at all times, day and night, to respond to call bells, support residents and oversee the general safety of the premises. The main entrance will be controlled by a secure entry system so that only authorised individuals can enter, while still allowing residents and visitors to come and go in a way that is consistent with their rights and care plans.
The building has been equipped with appropriate fire safety measures, including smoke detection, alarm systems, clearly marked escape routes and suitable fire fighting equipment such as extinguishers. Regular fire drills and checks will be carried out so that staff are confident in their roles during an emergency and residents are familiar with what to do if an alarm sounds. All gas and electrical installations are inspected and maintained by qualified contractors to ensure they remain safe for use.
Health and safety governance
Karuna Care London has health and safety policies and procedures that are designed to comply with relevant legislation and guidance. These cover areas such as risk assessment, safe use of equipment, infection prevention and control, maintenance, and environmental checks. Routine monitoring, audits and reviews will be used to ensure that the physical environment remains safe and that any issues identified are dealt with promptly. The intention is that residents live in a setting that feels relaxed and homely, but which is supported by a strong and systematic approach to safety behind the scenes.
Regulatory status
Karuna Care London is currently progressing through registration with the Care Quality Commission (CQC), and the service is not yet operational. The amenities and accessibility features described on this page reflect the intended environment for future residents and will be available for use once CQC registration and all other necessary approvals have been granted.
